As
part of its commitment to the future of the game,
one of the worlds leading sports management companies,
Golf Management International, who currently represent
25 European Tour Pro’s such as Brian Davis
& Scott Drummond, have teamed up with Mill
Ride Golf Club to offer two Junior Scholarships
to promising young golfers who fancy themselves
as the next Nick Faldo, Tiger Woods or Laura Davies.
A high number of applicants
were received and narrowed down to the final twenty
hopefuls at application stage, with two assessment
days carried out at Mill Ride. Head Professional
Terry Wild and assistant professional Russell
Neill, put the young prospects through their paces
on its excellent practice facilities, with the
final piece of the assessment being a dress code
check, rules quiz and questions as to why they
want to be a golf idol and what their future golfing
plans are.
Responses varied from ‘ to grow up as a
golfer’ from the youngest 5 year old applicant,
to ‘be better than my dad’ and the
common answer: ‘to be a tour pro ‘.
Terry Wild commented:
‘ The standard of golf seen over the two
assessment sessions was unbelievably high, with
some fantastic swings from even the youngest of
applicants which stood up well under the nervousness
of being assessed’.
The Lucky Winners were:
Adam Briggs, 15 years old from Bracknell, playing
off a handicap of eight, despite only playing
for a year and never had a lesson.
Jamie Crane, 13 years old & achieved highest
grades in the pro’s swing check.
A Special ‘third’
Scholarship was awarded to Richard Warren, aged
11 from Ascot, who despite suffering from Cerebral
Palsy is determined to compete at golf with able
bodied junior golfers and impressed us all so
much with his positive attitude.
The three winners each received
GMI scholarships covering Mill Ride Junior Membership
and joining fees, involvement in the clubs junior
team, regular competitions, free use of the clubs
excellent practice facilities including short
game area and covered range, complimentary group
& individual lessons from a PGA professional
and regular swing reviews with GMI European Tour
Pro’s such as Gary Evans in August this
year.
